Grandma Clark's Homemade Bread

Pull out the KitchenAid and wheat grinder, and let's get baking! Here is Grandma Clark's tried and true delicious homemade whole wheat bread. Delicious, healthy, and pretty darn easy- what more could one want?

Ingredients*

2 Tablespoons yeast
1/3 cup warm water
1 teaspoon sugar
5 cups HOT water
3 cups ground wheat (yes, your food storage wheat!)
2/3 cup cooking oil
2/3 cup honey or sugar
8-10 cups white flour**
2 Tablespoons salt

Directions

Put yeast in lukewarm water and sugar. Then place the ground wheat in the hot water and soak for 10 minutes. Add cooking oil, honey, and yeast mixture. Add white flour until dough pull away from mixer. Add salt and mix for ten minutes in mixer. Shape into loaves and place in bread pans. Raise for 40 minutes. Bake for 30 minutes at 350 degrees.

Makes 6 loaves. You can also shape them into rolls instead.

*This makes A LOT of dough- too much for a standard KitchenAid. I half the recipe and make 3 loaves instead of the full 6.

**You can experiment with the ratios of wheat flour to white flour. More wheat flour will make for a denser bread- so it really just comes down to preference. Just give it a shot and have fun with it!
